Flooding in Eastern Kentucky

In February 2025, devastating flooding swept through Eastern Kentucky, leaving entire communities facing unimaginable loss. Fifteen counties within our diocese have received FEMA disaster declarations in the wake of this crisis. Catholic Charities of Lexington has been on the ground from the start, walking with affected families through the early stages of response and into long-term recovery.

Data provided by FEMA indicate that they have received 6,943 total verified registrations from impacted households to date. Counties such as Pike, Floyd, Perry, and Knott were among the hardest hit, with thousands of families registering for aid.

Sheltering efforts have remained a critical focus, with seven shelters open and serving over 200 individuals. Catholic Charities is partnering with VOAD members, FEMA, St. Vincent de Paul Disaster Relief, Samaritan's Purse, The Red Cross, Kentucky Emergency Management, and many others to provide emergency shelter, essential supplies, rebuilding assistance, and financial aid for displaced families. We are committed to supporting flood victims on their long road to recovery.
