A Note from Angela Burns
Apr 5th, 10
I am so excited to announce that the Bridging the Gap office is back in business! Ever since we made known our need for donations through area television news stations and our Diocesan newspaper, Crossroads, we have received many generous donations to our Rent and Utility Assistance Fund. It’s been amazing to experience!
Not only will these donations encourage the clients who come to us for help, but they have also greatly encouraged me- professionally and spiritually. It is so inspiring to see people in my community and throughout Kentucky willing to sacrifice their own money in order to help someone else in need. For example: Commonwealth Credit Union in Frankfort had a dress-down day to raise money for people they have never met! What a creative idea! I am so thankful to those who participated.
I also received a donation with a note from a couple who read our plea for help in Crossroads. They had been seeking a charity in which to donate, and when they read our article, they felt the Holy Spirit say, “This is the one,” and wrote us a very large check that will help a huge amount of people! Tears burned the back of my eyes the rest of the day! Needless to say, I can’t do anything else but thank God for moving in people’s hearts and spirits to help His people whom He loves. When I watch people give of themselves to help someone else, whether the amount is large or small, I get excited about what can be accomplished on this Earth through selflessness and love. I am reminded that in the midst of such a difficult time for so many, there is still Hope: good still overpowers evil, love still embraces poverty, and light still abolishes the darkness.
So thank you SO MUCH to those who donated! Your donation blesses the Bridging the Gap Program at Catholic Charities, it blesses my coworkers and me as we witness and experience your generosity, and -most importantly- it blesses the clients who receive it in a very tangible way.
